Hymn 03:37
Om Bhadram karanebhihi shrunuyam devaha Bhadram pashyemaksha bhiriya jatraha shirairangai stushtuvam sastanubhir Vyashema devahitam yadayuh Om! Svastina indro vriddhashravah Svastinah pusha vishvavedaha Svastinah starkshyo arishtanemih Svastino brihaspatirdadhatu Om shanti shanti shanti Om! O gods, may we hear auspicious words with the ears; may we see auspicious things with our eyes; with a steady body and strong limbs, let us worship you; and may we live and enjoy the life allotted to us by the gods. May Indra be auspicious to us, may the all knowing Pusa be favorable to us; may garuda , the destroyer of evil, be well disposed towards us; may Brihaspati ensure our welfare. Om peace; peace; peace
2.
Om ityetad aksharam idam sarvam, tasyo upavyakhyanam, bhutam bhavad bhavishyaditi, sarvam omkar eva. Yacchanyat trikalatitam, tadapi omkar eva Om, this word is everything. A clear exposition is as follows. The past, present and future is truly OM. Everything beyond the three periods on time is also OM.
3.
Sarvam hyetad brahma, ayam atma brahma; soyam atma chatushpat All this is truly Brahma, the Self is Brahma; this Self has four quarters.
4.
Jagaritasthano bahish prajnaha, saptanga ekonavimshati mukhaha, sthula bhuga vaishwanaraha prathamah padaha The first quarter is Vaishwanarah. It is the waking state consciousness and its sphere of activities is related to things external. It has seven limbs and nineteen mouths. It enjoys the gross.
5.
Swapnasthano antaha prajnaha, saptanga ekonavimshati mukhaha, praviviktabhuka taijaso dvitiya padaha The second quarter is Taijasa. It is the dream state consciousness and its sphere of activities is related to the things internal. It has seven limbs and nineteen mouths. It enjoys the subtle.
6.
Yatra supto na kanchana kamama kamayate, na kanchan swapnam pashyati tat sushuptam. Sushuptasthana ekibhutaha prajnanghana eva anandamayo, hyanandabhuka chetomukha prajnasa tritiya padah The third quarter is the deep sleep state consciousness called Prajna. Its sphere is a realm where there is no dreams nor any desire for the gross enjoyable things. Everything becomes undifferentiated and exists as a mass of consciousness, wherein one enjoys bliss, and it is the gateway to our experiences ( of dream and waking states)
7.
Esha sarveshwara esha sarvajna esha antaryami esha yonih sarvasya prabhavapyayo hi bhutanam This one is the Lord of all; Omniscient; the Inner director; Source of all; a realm which is the origin and dissolution of all beings
8.
Na antaha prajnam na bahisha prajnam no bhayataha prajnyam na prajnanaghanam na prajnam na aprajnam. Adrishtam avyavaharyam agrahyam alakshanam achintyam avyapadeshyam ekatma prayaya saram prapancho pashmam shantam shivam advaitam chaturtham manyante sa atma sa vijneyaha The fourth quarter is not conscious of the internal nor the external, nor that which is conscious of both, nor that which is a mass of consciousness. It si neither conscious nor unconscious. It is unseen, unrelated to anything, incomprehensible, uninferable, unthinkable, indescribable; it is one with the Self. It is a realm where phenomena cease to exist, which is peaceful, blissful and non-dual. This Self has to be realized.
9.
Soyam atma adhyaksharam omkaraha adhimatram padaha matra matrashcha padaha. Akara, Ukara, Makara iti The Self, viewed through the syllables, is AUM. This AUM, representing the Quarters, exists as the syllables (letters), wherein the quarters are the letters and the letters are the quarters. The quarters are the letters A-kara, U-kra, M-kar.
10.
Jagaritasthno Vaishwanaraha akaraha prathama matra apteradimatvadva apnoti ha vai sarvana kaman adishcha bahvatiya evam veda Vaishwanaraha, whose sphere is the waking state, is represented by the letter 'A' because it is pervasive and is the first letter. This knowledge leads to the attainment of all desires and makes one foremost among all.
11.
Swapnasthanas taijasa ukaro dvtiya matra utkarashat ubhayatvadva utkarashati ha vai jnana santatim samanashcha bhavati nasya abrahmvita kule bhavati ya evam veda Taijasa, whose sphere is the dream state, is represented by the letter 'U' because of its imprtance and intermediate position. This awareness heightens the flow of knowledge. One attains wisdom and is the equal of all. None in the line of descendants will ever be born without knowledge of Brahman.
12.
Sushuptasthanah prajnah makaras tritiya matra miterapiterava minoti hava idam sarvam apitishcha bhavati ya evam veda Prajna, whose sphere is deep sleep, is represented by the letter 'M'. Here, the distinction between the other two states ends and all becomes one. Knowledge of the identity of Prajna leads to the comprehension of the nature of everything and the oneness of all beings.
13.
Amatra cahturtaha avyavaharyaha prapancho pashmaha shivo dvaita Evam omkara atma eva samvishati atmanatmanam ya evam veda Turiya, which is without any measure, which is unrelated to anything, imcomprehensible, where all phenomenon cease, is the all blissful, non-dual AUM. This is truly the Self. One who understands this merges with the divine Self - the part with the Whole

about

Mandukya Upanishad is an elegant and concise text of 12 verses, explaining the nature and essence of the mantra OM, by linking its component sounds AUM to our states of consciousness i.e. waking, dream and deep sleep. It delves deep into the mystery of the mantra Om thereby giving un insight into our true self
Two versions of the Mandukya Upanishad are offered, one in the form of a song and the other simpler chant version, to enable listeners to learn the verses
